A world leader in the area of intellectual property, and former chairman of Creative Commons, James Boyle has been a visionary figure, wisely predicting--before ‘Dot Com’ was a household phrase— the changes that mobile access, broadband, and social media would bring to the world of copyright.
As part of the Open Minds speaker series at Science Gallery, brought to you by McCann FitzGerald, and hosted by Pat Kenny, Professor Boyle's first talk in Ireland will be followed by a discussion on the future of copyright, IP, and patent with other industry experts, and address how the changing world of rights and regulations is about adapting, innovating and flourishing.
James Boyle is the William Neal Reynolds Professor of Law at Duke University, writes for the Financial Times’ New Economy Policy Forum, has taught at American University, Yale, Harvard, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and is the award-winning author of many books and essays, including Bound By Law, an educational comic book on fair use and Shamans, Software and Spleens: Law and Construction of the Information Society. In 2006 he received the Duke Bar Association Distinguished Teaching Award.He has been the Chairman of Creative Commons, and is the co-founder of Science Comons, which aims to expand the Creative Commons mission into the realm of scientific and technical data, and of ccLearn, which works to promote the development of open educational resources.
