Hi Kevin,
Here's what I would do.
First of all, if you are not overnighting in Berlin, buy a train ticket
directly to Eberswalde. You can get it from the DB machines (not the BVG
- subway machines). The machine is in the airport.
You can then go straight to the station and your ticket is valid right
away. You might have to stamp it in the machine. I'm not sure.
Don't take the S-Bahn, take the Regional Express, RE7 or RB14 to
Hauptbahnhof. It's 2 stops after Alexanderplatz.
Then look for the train to Eberswalde. It's downstairs on the
North-South line, going through Bernau (top right of the map).
You can go to db.de, click on the Union Jack for English, and search
for the following:
Berlin-Schönefeld Flughafen
Eberswalde Hbf
And enter the time you arrive in Berlin. It's only 1 hour 11 minutes to
get there.
Once you get out at Eberswalde, you're on your own. I've never been
there. I don't think you'll be traveling alone though.
Hope this helps. :)
Justin.
